rape and the tree“Therefore an overseer must be . . . well thought of by outsiders” 1 Timothy 3:7

This is the virtue of reputation.

A virtuous leader must have a good reputation.

Tied to this virtue are two preventable consequences.

The first relates to a broad appeal. This has special connotations for the church.

The virtuous leader, by maintaining a good reputation with even those who are not followers of Christ, will not fall into disgrace.

How a Christian leader is judged by those outside the faith truly matters.

We cannot live double lives. It is called hypocrisy.

We cannot conduct our business life one way and our business within the church in another.

Their needs to be congruity. We must desire the validation from those outside the faith regarding our integrity.

If we pursue the double life we set ourselves up for the snare.

The snare implies danger and death.

In this case it implies aligning ourselves with the enemy of our souls, Satan.

“If I take care of my character, my reputation will take care of itself.” D.L. Moody

This is the last post in a series on virtuous leadership taken from the Bible. I hope you have been prodded to think more deeply about your leadership. We are in desperate need for better, more virtuous leaders, in all parts of our society. Strive to be one.
